A huge share of the synthetic voices you now hear in AI products - audiobooks, dubbed video, voice assistants - were generated by ElevenLabs' models, and its rapid re-rating to an $11 billion valuation reflects how central voice has become to the AI product stack.
ElevenLabs was founded in 2022 by Piotr Dąbkowski (previously on Google's machine learning team) and Mati Staniszewski, initially to build higher-quality automated dubbing, before their underlying text-to-speech technology became the product itself. Its voice synthesis and voice-cloning tools are now embedded across a wide range of AI products - narration, dubbing, conversational voice agents and accessibility tools among them - to the point that "sounds like ElevenLabs" has become a informal industry reference point for synthetic voice quality.
The company's Series D, closed in stages through 2026, valued it at $11 billion - more than triple its valuation a year earlier - with participation from an unusually broad mix of venture, sovereign and strategic investors including Nvidia, Salesforce and several major European telecoms and banks.
