One of the largest and most AI-concentrated venture firms in the world, founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. a16z runs sector-specific funds spanning applications, infrastructure and bio, and has been among the largest outside investors in the current generation of frontier AI labs - relevant to any UAE company benchmarking against, or eventually raising alongside, Silicon Valley capital.

One of the longest-running technology VC firms in the Gulf, investing from pre-seed through growth with a hands-on, founder-first approach. Sector-agnostic with a recurring emphasis on fintech, SaaS, logistics and, increasingly, AI - the firm's track record includes early positions in Careem (acquired by Uber) and Swvl (a SPAC IPO).

MGX
An Abu Dhabi investment firm built specifically for AI, formed as a joint venture between Mubadala and AI and cloud company G42, and chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In its first eighteen months it went from launch to co-leading some of the largest private funding rounds ever recorded, and in July 2026 closed the biggest dedicated AI fund raised to date.

Mubadala Investment Company
Abu Dhabi's sovereign investment company, formed in 2017 from the merger of Mubadala Development Company and IPIC. It has built one of the largest direct and indirect exposures to frontier AI of any sovereign investor worldwide - both as a direct backer of leading AI labs and as the anchor partner behind MGX, the dedicated Abu Dhabi AI fund it co-created.

Public Investment Fund (PIF)
Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and the financial engine of Vision 2030. Since 2025, PIF has stood up HUMAIN, a wholly owned national AI company mandated to build the full stack - data centres, cloud, models and applications - and continued to grow Alat, its AI-hardware and semiconductor manufacturing arm, alongside its long-standing role as an anchor LP in SoftBank's Vision Fund.

SoftBank Group's vehicle for very large, very late technology bets, launched in 2017 with $100B in committed capital - anchored by Saudi Arabia's PIF and Abu Dhabi's Mubadala as founding limited partners alongside SoftBank itself. It is included here for the same reason it is relevant to any UAE company raising a large round: two of the region's own sovereign funds are structurally inside it.
