Zed

Zed Industries · A from-scratch, Rust-built code editor with AI collaboration designed in from day one.

Worth a dedicated look at what 'AI-native' actually requires at the infrastructure level — a rebuilt rendering engine, not just a bolted-on chat panel.

What it does

A code editor built from scratch in Rust for speed, with agentic AI editing, inline chat and its own edit-prediction model (Zeta) built into the core rather than bolted on as a plugin.

Why Nakoda noticed it

Editors that market themselves as 'AI-first' are common; editors that rebuilt their rendering engine so AI suggestions don't stutter are not. Zed earns its place here for doing the unglamorous infrastructure work most AI-editor entrants skip.
