Oversees ATRC, the Abu Dhabi government body directing research and technology policy, whose applied-research arm, the Technology Innovation Institute, builds the Falcon family of open AI models. He also chairs EDGE Group, one of the region's largest advanced-technology and defense groups, and advises the UAE President on strategic research and advanced technology, with the rank of minister.
Public role
Al Bannai was appointed ATRC's Secretary General by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed. He has been named among TIME's 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence for his role directing Abu Dhabi's applied AI and technology-research programme, which includes TII's Falcon open-weight models.
