Independent open-source developer who built Datasette, a tool for exploring and publishing data, and the widely used `llm` command-line tool that connects local and hosted language models to Unix pipelines and plugins. A former Django core developer, his blog is one of the most closely followed independent sources of AI-tooling analysis.
Public role
Willison left Eventbrite in late 2019 for a John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford focused on open-source tools for data journalism, and has worked as an independent developer since. His `llm` project and its plugin ecosystem are used across the AI-engineering community to connect models to local tools and data.
