Former co-lead of Google's Ethical AI research team; founded DAIR, an independent, community-rooted AI research institute, after leaving Google in December 2020. She also co-founded the Black in AI community and remains a prominent public voice on algorithmic bias and AI-industry accountability.
Public role
Gebru completed her PhD in computer vision at Stanford under Fei-Fei Li and was previously a research scientist at Microsoft Research before joining Google. DAIR, which she founded and leads as executive director, conducts AI research through a community-centred lens, documenting AI-related harms and advocating for data workers' rights.
